Bring Back The Nostalgia

Oops, delayed post! It's November already. Year 2012 is coming to an end soon. I was feeling nostalgic and decided to watch black and white films, and 2/3 are silent films. I have been watching quite a lot of classic films lately such as The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, The Kid, and She Shoulda Say No! , and Charlie Chaplin Festival. The action in movies were speeded up to improve the comic effect. Few seconds of the inter-title during the action to explain what happened accompanied by sound effects. In all honesty, sometimes, the interval inter-title stayed too long which made me read it twice. Actors and actress portrayed all the pain, humiliation, hope, love, yearning, sorrow and more without speaking a word. The music played in those films were old ragtime music which makes me feel like dancing da dum da dum da dum~

Here's one of the films I have seen lately---Tokyo Story by Japanese director, Yasujirō Ozu.

Bus scene where the father and daughter-in-law visiting Tokyo

How well-developed was the city of Tokyo back then in 1950's

Industrialized place

The old couple fanning themselves to keep cool during their sleeping time. The weather must be very hot.

Hierarchy arrangement of the impressive castle

Wooden boats in the quiet stream

What is the name again for this authentic look of the ornamental stone?

I find this quote "No one can serve his parent beyond the grave" also reminding me of this Chinese proverb "树欲静而风不止,子欲养而亲不在" that I learnt last time which means, a tree desires to stand still, but wind does not stop. A son desires to serve his parents, but they are gone. Tokyo Story brings a powerful message as it resonates today in most cultures I suspect and often with much less kindness than is shown in this film.
It gives us time of reflection for some of the family values lost in a changing society.

Now, the popping sound of firecrackers and fireworks can be heard everywhere.Tomorrow will be the day for Hindus to celebrate the festival of lights, Diwali! Hope the day will bring fun, joy and togetherness to everyone. Hooray, hooray! It's a HOLI-HOLIDAY!

Have you ever wondered why there must be a cake cutting ceremony?
Who should be holding the knife?
What does it symbolizes?
Haha, that's something to think about isn't it?

Yes, wedding cake, badminton court...and a fountain deco and ornamental statue?
Hmmm...
